Giving Thanks
WE SERVE A MIGHTY GOD and should praise him on a daily basis.
Each year at Thanksgiving, we remember all of our blessings.
Thanksgiving comes at a time of the year when most farmers have completed the harvest of their crops.
We had a late cotton crop this year & were able to get it harvested before Thanksgiving.
In Psalm 106 vs 1, scripture says “Praise the Lord. O give thanks unto the Lord; for He is good, and His mercy endureth forever.”
We have so much to be thankful for. We can be thankful that God blessed our nation with independence from England. We are a Christian nation & our founding fathers used scripture & references to God in our Constitution. We can be thankful for salvation. Jesus died that we all might have eternal life. All of us who have accepted Christ as Savior will be at the great reunion.
We can be thankful for our veterans who served so that we will remain the greatest nation on the earth.
Remember to pack a shoe box for Operation Christmas Child. I attended the Values Voters Summit in Washington D.C. in October. I visited with Edward Graham, son of Reverend Franklin Graham, and is a former Army Major who is serving with leadership at Samaritan’s Purse. Samaritan’s Purse is opening a distribution center at Coppell TX & will also handle Operation Christmas Child. I also visited with Randy Riddle, who is in charge of Operation Christmas Child. State Representative Cody Harris recently did a fundraising auction for local and state candidates. We have an auctioneer in our state legislature.

God's Protection
NAA held Conference & Show in New Orleans July 9-13. Hurricane Barry was predicted to hit the Gulf Coast and might be causing damage in New Orleans. On Wednesday morning, we had flash flooding. Many of the NAA attendees left to go home. We even had some Texans to leave on Thursday morning.
God promises us through his word: “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11
“Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” Isaiah 41:10
I left on Saturday and drove up through Mississippi to miss the storm.

Agriculture Feeds the Worls
WHEN A REPORTER was doing interviews on the street, the question was asked, where does your food come from?
The answer was “Safeway”. (Safeway is a grocery chain that used to be in Texas) U.S. Farmers & ranchers feed not only our nation, but many around the world.
Because of low commodity prices, we are faced with record foreclosures & bankrupcies. People must eat, yet agriculture subsidizes consumers with food prices that are below the cost of production.
We finished planting cotton in May. The cost of the seed was $80.00 per acre. The chemical to control cotton root rot cost $744.00 per gallon.
One of our costumers spent $90,000.00 on his cottonseed with no guarantee of a crop. In First Timothy 6 vs 6 to 8, scripture states:
“6. But godliness with contentment is great gain.
7. For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out.
8. And having food and raiment let us be therewith content.”
It was great to see everyone at the TAA Convention. Brett & Patti Thomas stopped by to visit & to update us on their son, Ashley Harbour. On the morning of February 10th Ashley Harbour was in a house fire that destroyed his home and 47% of his body has deep tissue burns, everything from his waist up. He has had 6 surgeries and has been in the hospital for over 16 weeks. Ashley has a long way to go with more surgeries and physical therapy.
A benefit was held for Ashley:
Thomas and Harbour Benefit Dinner and Auction
June 29th - 6:00 pm
Priefert Sales Hangar, Mt. Pleasant, TX
Scripture states in Mathew 7 vs 12: “Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets.”
At the Saturday Night Banquet at the TAA Convention, a large sum of money was raised for Ashley. May God richly bless each of you.
Ben’s son Blake is deployed to Japan. Keep Corporal Blake Royston in your prayers.

Take Care of Your Health
The older we are, the more we need to have tests done to check our health. With the new technology, tests are available that will prevent health issues.
Several years ago, I had a radioactive test done to check for heart problems. I got a good report & everything was fine. I was at DFW airport about a week after the test & security stopped me. They had been alerted by a screening device that checked for radioactive materials. After explaining my test, they let me continue my trip.
We have been working cattle this week. We vaccinate, give medication for parasites, as well as give pneumonia & vitamin shots. Since it is winter, we feed hay & cottonseed. We also have salt, mineral, & magnesium blocks out for the cattle.
We need to use wisdom to benefit our health & our lives. In Proverbs 3vs 1 to 7 scripture states:
Wisdom Bestows Well-Being
3 My son, do not forget my teaching, but keep my commands in your heart,
2 for they will prolong your life many years and bring you peace and prosperity.
3 Let love and faithfulness never leave you; bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart.
4 Then you will win favor and a good name in the sight of God and man.
5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding;
6 in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.[a]
7 Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the LORD and shun evil.
We can continue to pray for all of those with health issues. Jesus healed many people during his ministry. Jesus healed a woman in Luke 8 vs 43 to New International Version (NIV):
43 And a woman was there who had been subject to bleeding for twelve years,[a] but no one could heal her. 44 She came up behind him and touched the edge of his cloak, and immediately her bleeding stopped.
45 “Who touched me?” Jesus asked.
When they all denied it, Peter said, “Master, the people are crowding and pressing against you.”
46 But Jesus said, “Someone touched me; I know that power has gone out from me.”
47 Then the woman, seeing that she could not go unnoticed, came trembling and fell at his feet. In the presence of all the people, she told why she had touched him and how she had been instantly healed.48 Then he said to her, “Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace.”
He can take care of all our problems as well.

We received this from one of our deployed soldiers, Jason Colon.
We just received your great care package!!
It contained a pile of Pumpkin ornamented cookies and some good chocolate-coconut cookies as well. Thank you so very much. We are in Kosovo, not too many people know that Kosovo is still an active war zone, not too dangerous, but it is still categorized as a Combat Zone, and we have restrictions as to where we can go and what we can do. Getting a care package from the home land, USA, always makes for a happy day. I shared the cookies with all my co-workers, they were a big hit. In the box was the Menu for the bakery, wow! I wish I were there to try all those goodies. Please pass on all our Thanks and appreciation to all that put their efforts into building the care package.

Pray For Those In Authority
The Bible tells us to pray for those in authority. In 1 Timothy 2:1-3, scripture states:
- “I exhort therefore, that, first of all supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men;
- For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.
- For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour;”
As Christians, we should be involved in electing leaders that will represent Biblical values. We should compare the voting record of our candidates and vote for those who will vote Biblical values.
In September, the National Auctioneers Association (NAA) representatives were in Washington D.C. We have two U. S. Representatives who are auctioneers; Representative Jeff Duncan from South Carolina and Representative Billy Long from Missouri. Representative Long was on national news several months ago when he auctioned a protestor’s cell phone. Representative Long taught me in auction school at the Missouri Auction School.
NAA president, Tim Mast and others from NAA represented your interests as they worked with legislators in Washington on matters dealing with auctioneers. Mike Jones represented Texas at the “NAA Day on the Hill”. Thanks to Mike and the others who made the trip to promote the auction industry.
I went to Washington D. C. later in September to attend the Values Voters Summit. The purpose of the Summit is to encourage participants to get involved in their churches and communities to get candidates elected who will vote Biblical values. We visited with Vice President Pence, Gary Bauer, and many other leaders in Washington. Gary Bauer served in the Reagan Administration and has a great daily newsletter that you can receive. American Values is free if you email Gary at . I also visited with many of the Senator’s offices to encourage them to confirm Judge Kavanaugh.
Pictured below is Elizabeth Burgess who works in Congressman Sam Johnson’s office. She is the daughter of Sim and Dana Burgess of Graham, TX. This photo is in Congressman Johnson’s office.

Praise God For All Things
God blessed us with 6.85 inches of rain which should be a record for August for central Texas. It will help the pastures & hayfields.
The corn & cotton crops will have mostly low yields. There are very few crops in West TX other than what is irrigated. Hay is in short supply because of the drought. Farmers & ranchers and those in agriculture are forced with little or no income after working hard all year.
When we think things are not going very well, we can remember what Carrie Ten Boom said in the German Concentration camp. She stated, “we need to praise God for all things”. We need to pray that God will give us faith to praise Him in all circumstances.
We had a great FCAI program at Conference & Show. Martin Higgenbotham from Florida gave the program & Denny Stouffer of Maryland presented the praise music.
FCAI officers elected from Texas were Amy Assiter, Alvin Kaddatz, Lisa Gay, John Gay, Traci Yeaman, Spanky Assiter, & John Sisk.

God Provides
This morning it was 7 degrees in Hillsboro. Our son David had 0 in Saint Louis and a friend near Joplin, MO had 2 below zero. Many in south Texas had snow and ice.
Through all this cold weather, God provides for us as well as livestock.
For a newborn calf to be born and survive when it is 14 degrees is a miracle. The calf has to start nursing immediately to survive. The cow has colostrum which provides the calf with special nourishment when it starts nursing. If God can provide for a baby calf, He can provide for our needs.
As Jesus said:
"Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns: yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they?"
When taking care of the cattle in cold weather, the cattle have to be fed hay and some high protein feed such as cotton seed, syrup, or cubes. Ice has to be broken on ponds, so the cattle can get water. If a newborn calf does not get up and nurse, we take it in to a warm area and feed it. We use our auction sound truck to move the baby calves.
While checking the cattle this morning, not only were the cattle at the feed trough eating hay, many birds and three wild turkeys were there as well. God has provided for all of these.
Pease pray for State Trooper Damon Allen’s family. Trooper Allen went to be with the Lord after a traffic stop in November in Freestone County.
If you need encouragement, these scripture passages provide promises.
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your path.
>Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us.
The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.
Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I and your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. 1 Corinthians 15:57Be strong and courageous, do not be terrified, do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go

Praise God for our Friends
We had another auctioneer who went to be with the Lord on May 1st, 2017. Our good friend, Bob Manning, was called home after a brief illness. Bob faithfully served the Fellowship of Christin Auctioneers International (FCAI), NAA, TAA, and was a strong supporter of the Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children, (TSRHC). Everyone enjoyed seeing Bob at the NAA & TAA conventions. Whenever we arrived, Bob and Nancy were already there greeting not only their friends but anyone who attended. Bob was a member of the TAA Hall of Fame.
I was honored when Nancy asked me to conduct the services for Bob. Auctioneers from across the U.S. attended the funeral. Memorials may be sent to TSRHC or FCAI. Please keep Nancy and the family in your prayers.
Jesus gives the promise of eternal life.
In John II vs 25 & 26, Jesus said
“I am the resurrection and the life: he that believes in Me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: And who so ever lives and believes in Me shall never die.”
Than in verse 35, scripture states,
“Jesus wept”.
Jesus had lost his friend, Lazarus. Jesus had come to comfort his friends, Mary and Martha who had lost their brother.
Farmers and Ranchers need your prayers. After two years of low commodity and cattle prices, many will be forced to go out of business if economical conditions do not improve. The cattle we sold in 2014 brought around $1400 per head. The ones we sold recently brought $700.00 per head. An Auctioneer we work with lost approximately $500,000 last year.
It was great to see everyone at the TAA convention. Rick Stroud read a list of deceased Texas Auctioneers at the Tuesday night banquet. We have lost so many friends over the years. We celebrated TAA’s 60th anniversary.
Congratulations to Lori Lemons Campbell who was inducted into the TAA Hall of Fame.
T.J. Freije, who won the NAA Auctioneer’s contest, was one of our speakers at the convention. He gave his testimony and shared his faith.
We missed Henry and Pat Storey who attended 51 consecutive TAA conventions. They are doing fine.
